Welcome to The Grove

where belonging and neurobiology connect

You Belong Here.

Therapy is weird.

There, we have addressed the elephant. We say to you, “meet me one hour a week and develop a level of trust that usually take years to build. I just need your credit card and total vulnerability. Thanks!” No other setting or relationship asks this of another person. This is why I want you know, from the get-go, that at The Grove you are safe, accepted, and genuinely welcome. As we work toward your goals, we will explore the complex weaving of your neurobiology, relationships, experiences, thoughts, and resources. This process requires so very many unknowns, so allow me to offer you some certainty. Working with me,

You won’t have to be anyone but your authentic self.

You won’t have to work for understanding or compassion.

You won’t have to worry about judgment or being exposed.

And there is nothing weird about that.

  • I offer individual, couples, family, and group therapy using an integrative approach and evidence based interventions tailored to your needs and goals. Therapy relies on evidence based practices and experience in psychosocial, neurobiological, emotional, and cognitive change.

  • We work together to not only embed evidence based practices and strategies into your parenting, but also to identify your family's unique values and goals. And most importantly, we work to better understand your triggers and the obstacles that get in the way of being the parent you want to be and having the connections you want with your children.

  • My doctorate has allowed for a specialty in understanding how to coach upcoming counselors, social workers, psychologists, and psychiatric NP's in the complex world of therapeutic skill building and navigating personal and professional growth.

  • At this time I am not conducting full psychological evaluations, however, I am evaluating using evidence based and highly accurate and valid assessment measures to determine ADHD, executive functioning, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Mood Disorder/ Emotion Regulation Issues

  • I have a bachelor's degree in psychology and education, a masters degree in clinical mental health counseling, and a doctorate in counseling education and supervision. I am currently licensed as a counselor (LPC) in the state of Virginia and will soon be licensed in Missouri as well.

  • I practice from an integrative approach to therapy meaning I will draw from a variety of different interventions during our time together. I am trained in cognitive behavior therapy, internal family systems, child centered play therapy, poly vagal theory, EMDR, Gottman method for couples level one, and somatic experiencing.

  • I have worked with individuals, families, couples, and groups for nearly two decades. I have experience working with almost all diagnoses and issues, but my passion and expertise lie in women's issues and trauma. I've researched, published, and presented on birth trauma, mental health in motherhood, transforming parenting, and releasing trauma from the body.

 FAQs

  • For years I had three distinct voices that all called out for value and focus in my life and practice. One had an insatiable curiosity for the neuroscience, biology, and physiology underlying mental health. Another craved an understanding of the relational, social, and cultural components of connection that contribute to functioning. While a third stood squarely in love with the emotions, thoughts, values, and experiences typically explored in traditional therapy.

And now, after nearly a decade of intense study, training, practice and reflection, I have finally found harmony in my voices. I have found that they work best when they inform each other. All three weave together to create the foundation and roots of who we are and how we function. THIS IS THE DIFFERENCE, I do take a truly holistic approach At The Grove, and I work to bring awareness and nourishment to your roots in each of these areas. Because nourished roots promote growth and thriving.
